IMO this is the SATURN vs PS all over again.....except this time Microsoft is the UPSTART SONY Role...and making the cheaper easy to develop for system and bending over backwards for fans and indeed catering to them.....and Sony being in the SEGA Role of the arrogant incumbent in the industry.

Are you kidding? This is probably the single biggest announcement for the entire week, simply because of the "impossibility" factor being so high. I imagine fanboys of a certain variety are experience SQUARESHOCK or some similar symptom to this announcement right now.

I'm usually never one to care what system a game is on - if it's good, it's good. But this just seems wrong, and I'm not entirely sure why. The game will be great on any console, but when I saw the announcement, I felt just plain weird, quite honestly. But, I guess the FF series has crossed all boundaries of platforms now, so I think we'll all be fine. Still, personally, FFXIII will never touch my XBOX console.

Yeah it was pretty obvious at that point. What other game do they have now that would be worth pulling off a stunt like that?
The only way I see Sony countering this is if they come out with FF7 remake, PS3 only. Seeing as more people worldwide want to play that over 13, that would almost negate this announcement.

Everyone who is playing this off as not a big announcement is a Sony fanboy.
The point here is that this will keep Sony from having a system selling exclusive game, and those with (or without) a 360 who were thinking of buying a PS3 for this game, may now just purchase the CHEAPER 360...
I own both systems, and will purchase this for the 360 simply for achievements, as sad as that is.

It's a personal preference either way. If I could get an install upfront vs swapping discs I'd take it every time. Swapping discs is just annoying. Not only do I dislike the interruption, but multi-disc game cases always seem to suck. It seems like every time I've bought one there a disc loose inside. I doubt if that issue will be what determines which I buy though... unless it's soemthing crazy like 4 or 5 discs. If it is that many then I'll buy it on the PS3 for sure.

WOW... this is stunning. I wonder what impact this will have in Japan, if any? With all the JRPGs piling up on the 360 you've got to think that the system would reach some sort of tipping point in Japan and start selling more systems.

Previous version of FF on the Playstation had disc swapping (FF7, 8, and 9). Disc swapping for RPGs of this type don't bother people.

Ok, so unless Sony are complete fucktards and never talk to their developers, they knew this was happening. So have they prepped anything for their keynote to counter? Could get pretty spicy this week.
